I started cycling when I was about 15. I used to meet the St.Helens Cyclists
Touring Club every Sunday and do about 50 miles, after which I was totally
knackered. After about 2 years of touring and Youth Hostelling I got the racing
bug.

After being shunned by the CTC for having no mudguards, no saddle bag and no food, (just loads of cash for food) I was introduced to the VC Halton by long time friend Cliff Preston. It was with Cliff that I rode my first Time Trial in 1983 when we managed 1 hr 3 minutes in the North Wirral Velo 2-up 25 mile test.
I rode time trials all that year and improved steadily.
1984 - Junior 1st....South Lancs 10 mile TT 1985 - Changed Club...Rode for St.Helens Cycle Racing Club 2nd....Scale Hall Critirium 1986 Club Champion at 10,25,50 and 100 mile
