Another horrendous day in the Pyrenees saw Chris struggling though, despite suffering
from injuries caused by the previous days crash. He is determined to get to the
finish in Paris and as an added insentive, has promised his children a trip to Disneyland
after the Tour. Chris suffered today, the route was bad enough without having to ride
with a stiff neck and sore back. He was helped off his bike at the finish, aiming now
just to get through and possibly challenge in the time trials ahead, injuries permitting.
Team mate Cedric Vasseur again had an epic ride today, showing all the qualities
of a champion, he was dropped on all the major climbs but again made up ground on
the descents and then had the audacity to attack at the base of the final climb.
He was later passed by Ullrich who went on to win the stage and stake his claim on
the yellow jersey.
The Tour has been a success so far for GAN and the team now looks good to obtain a
new sponsor for the 1998 season. Chris has been linked with ONCE for next year,
but has stated that he would stay with the now GAN team if a a new sponsor was found.
