DAY 12
Stage 11
ANDOREE - PERPIGNAN 186km

16th July 1997

Heading for a Rest!

The stage today saw the riders comming together after the initial mountain climb
of the day. Chris stayed in the pack, with the GAN team working to keep the field
together on the downhill run in to Perpignan. It looked like the stage was set for
the sprinters, but three riders clipped away in the final kilometers to contest the
finish. Sergi Outschakov was first over the line, but was later relagated to third
after the judges verdict. He had veered off his line and had obstructed Laurent
Desbiens who was awarded the victory.

Fred Moncassin got the better of Zabel in the bunch sprint...pity it was only for 4th.

Chris will welcome the rest day as it will give him time to get treatment on his neck.
He had stated previously that the 55k time trial on Friday was one he could win...
if he is going for it watch for the Low Profile, otherwise he may just plod round if
his injuries are going to inhibit his effort. Chris will not do things by half, he'll
either be up their or not bother!
